INTRODUCTION: The electrocardiogram (ECG) is the most widely used method for the diagnosis of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) in hypertensive patients because it is a recognized cardiovascular risk factor. OBJECTIVES: To establish the diagnostic validity of the Sokolow-Lyon Voltage Duration Product compared to the Sokolow-Lyon Index in hypertensive left ventricular hypertrophy. MATERIAL AND METHOD: A study of diagnostic tests was carried out to evaluate 113 hypertensive patients with electrocardiogram and Echocardiogram of Hospital Belén between 2015 and 2016. The sensitivity, specificity and predictive values of the electrocardiographic criteria were determined: Sokolow-Lyon PDV and Index of Sokolow-Lyon. Patients with cardiovascular complications and other diseases affecting left ventricular mass RESULTS: The mean age was 67.55 ± 11.77 years; 67.3% were female; The Product Sokolow-Lyon Voltage Duration has a Sensitivity of 28.04%, Specificity of 93.54%, Positive Predictive Value of 92% and Negative Predictive Value of 32.95% with an area under the curve of 0.61 (CI 95% , 0.5-0.7 ); The Sokolow-Lyon Index has a Sensitivity of 12.19%, Specificity of 93.54%, Positive Predictive Value of 83.33%, and Negative Predictive Value of 28.7%, with an area under the curve of 0.53 (CI 95%, 0.4-0.6). CONCLUSIONS: The Sokolow-Lyon PDV has more diagnostic validity than the Sokolow-Lyon Index for the diagnosis of LVH in hypertensive patients.
