OBJECTIVE: To determine whether age, sex, therapeutic empty, the surface area burned, the degree of burn, inhalation injury, sepsis and comorbidity, are risk factors for acute kidney injury major burned patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We conducted an observational, analytical, case-control, which evaluated 111 patients study, which were divided into two groups, the cases (37 patients with acute kidney injury) and controls (74 patients without acute kidney injury), served in the Hospital Regional Docente de Trujillo during the period from January 2010 to March 2015. RESULTS: The mean age of cases and controls were 49.43 ± 16.66 and 44.05 ± 20.14 years respectively, p > 0.05; the proportion of males in the cases and controls were 67.57% and 62.16%, p > 0.05. Means therapeutic empty and burned surface area (1.32 hours ± 1.10 hours and 29.05% ± 12.12% in cases and 0.70 hours ± 0.63 hours and 24.19% ± 4.65% in controls) had a significant (p < 0.001, p < 0.01, respectively). Univariate analysis identified the therapeutic void ≥ 2 hours, the surface area burned ≥ 30%, the degree of the burn and the presence of sepsis as risk factors for acute kidney injury. Multivariate analysis identified the therapeutic empty ≥ 2 hours and the presence of sepsis as risk factors for acute kidney injury. CONCLUSIONS: In patient’s major burned by thermal injury, the therapeutic empty ≥ 2 hours and the presence of sepsis are risk factors that predict acute kidney injury.
