The present study is descriptive and cross-sectional, and aimed to determine the prevalence of periodontal biotypes, according to Olsson y Lindhe (1993), in the students of the School of Dentistry of the Private University Antenor Orrego, 2015. The population constituted the students of The Private University Antenor Orrego College of Dentistry, registered in the year 2015- II. In those students were used the characteristics of periodontal biotypes according to Olsson y Lindhe (1993), which were organized in a double entry table and data was entered into it. These characteristics are the study of gingival sulcus, gingival margin, interdental papilla, contact area and tooth shape. The sextant II was analyzed. Eighty students constituted a representative sample of the population, and the results were: 39 (48.8%) students with thick periodontal biotype and 41 (51.2%) students with thin periodontal biotype (this biotype was the most prevalent). According to sex, 17 women (35.4%) had a thick periodontal biotype and 31 women (64.6%) had a thin periodontal biotype; in contrast to men, 32 (68.8%) had a thick periodontal biotype and 10 (31.2%) had a thin periodontal biotype. According to age (18 - 29 years old), the first group (≤ 21 years old) had 58 students , of whom 31 students (53.4%) had thick periodontal biotype and 27 students (46.0%) had thin periodontal biotype; the second group (≥ 22 years old) had 22 students, of whom 10 students (45.5%) had thick periodontal biotype and 12 students (54.5%) had thin periodontal biotype.
