To determine whether the incidence of intra-abdominal abscesses is higher with laparoscopic appendectomy with open appendectomy in Trujillo Regional Teaching Hospital. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This corresponds to an analytical design cohortes evaluated 96 patients diagnosed with uncomplicated acute appendicitis and underwent appendectomy either open or laparoscopic technique and hospitalized in the Department of Surgery of Trujillo Regional Teaching Hospital in the time period between January 2010 to April 2014 patients were divided into two groups, laparoscopic appendectomy group (48 patients) and open appendectomy group (48 patients). RESULTS: With regard to age; average for the group I was 32.04 ± 12.20 years and for group II was 32.38 ± 13.57 years (p> 0.05) between sexes was observed that 56.25% of were male patients in group I and group II 58.33% (p> 0.05) in relation to the mean operative time in groups I and II were 57.75 ± 18.64 and 45.27 ± 15.52 minutes (p <0.01) respectively regarding hospital stay was observed that patients in group I had an average of 25.90 ± 15.21 hours compared to 30.92 ± 13.68 hours hospitalization in group II (p> 0.05) with respect to the presence of intra-abdominal abscesses after surgery, these were presented in group I and 10.42% in group II 4.17% (p> 0 05), with an OR = 2.67 95% CI [0.49 to 14.52] CONCLUSIONS: The rate of postoperative intra-abdominal abscess is lower than in laparoscopic appendectomy than open appendectomy.
