To evaluate the association between the low Apgar score at five minutes and Sensorineural Hearing loss in preterm infants. Materials and methods: An observational, case-control study was conducted, including 104 infants with a history of prematurity at Victor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital, who attended the Auditory Evoked Potentials (PEA) test. The information was obtained from the medical history and data collection sheet. This information was processed using the statistical package SPSS version 22. The association of Apgar at 5 min with Sensorineural hearing loss was estimated with Odds Ratio (OR) with Confidence Intervals (CI) of 95%. Results: Cases was represented by 52 patients diagnosed with Sensorineural Hearing Loss; and Controls by 52 patients without Hearing Loss. It was shown that groups were homogenized according to sex, gestational age and birth weight. The Odds Ratio found was 4.06 with a 95% Confidence Interval: 1.5 to 10.9, for a p: 0.005. Conclusion: The Apgar score under 5 minutes of life is associated with Sensorineural Hearing Loss in preterm infants. Patients who got low Apgar score have 4 times more risk than those who got normal Apgar score.
