Introduction: Neurocysticercosis (NCC) is considered the most frequent parasitic disease of the CNS. In Peru, it is the leading cause of acquired epilepsy in pediatrics. When affecting people in childhood and adolescence, it is important to diagnose early to avoid the sequelae on the functions of the central nervous system. Among the diagnostic tests in NCC, are mainly neuroimaging such as computed tomography (CT) and immunological tests, especially the Western Blot. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of the brain tomography in the diagnosis of neurocysticercosis in children and adolescents. Materials and Methods: Using a non-experimental study, observational, diagnostic tests, hospital Lazarte IV of ESSALUD of Trujillo. Studied 40 children aged 1-18 years, average age of 12. 65± 4.28 years 40% female; who had clinical suspicion of cerebral cysticercosis, of which 19(-) had CT and 21 CT (+). The results were analyzed with the statistical package SPSS 21.0. Data were calculated by constructing double-entry frequency tables with absolute and relative values, using Chi square test (x 2 ). Results: found for CT diagnostic effectiveness in neurocysticercosis, a sensitivity = 80.95%, specificity = 78.94%, VPP = 80.95%, VPN = 78.94% (P < 0.05) Of the 21 children with clinical suspicion of neurocysticercosis, NCC tomographic findings were not found in 47.5%; 20% were visible scólex, 20% calcifications + edema and 12.5% cyst + edema. Conclusion: The brain tomography has validity in the diagnosis of neurocysticercosis in children and adolescents.
