Objective: To demonstrate that there is an association between hypertriglyceridemia and increased glycosylated hemoglobin in diabetic patients treated at Hospital Belén de Trujillo. Material and Methods: An analytical, observational, retrospective, case-control study was conducted. The study population consisted of 108 adult diabetic patients; which were divided into 2 groups: with hypertriglyceridemia or without hypertriglyceridemia; The odds ratio and chi-square test were calculated. Results: The frequency of glycosylated hemoglobin greater than 7% in diabetic patients with hypertriglyceridemia was 61%. The frequency of glycosylated hemoglobin greater than 7% in diabetic patients without hypertriglyceridemia was 33%. There is an association between hypertriglyceridemia and increased glycosylated hemoglobin in diabetic patients with an odds ratio of 3.14 which was significant (p <0.05). The mean glycosylated hemoglobin was significantly higher in the group of diabetic patients with hypertriglyceridemia than the group without hypertriglyceridemia. Conclusions: There is an association between hypertriglyceridemia and increased glycosylated hemoglobin in diabetic patients treated at Hospital Belén de Trujillo.
