Objective: To determine if vitiligo is a factor associated with diabetes mellitus in patients of Hospital Belén de Trujillo. Material and Methods: An analytical, observational, retrospective, sectional, transversal study was carried out. The study population consisted of 148 patients who were divided into 2 groups: with or without diabetes mellitus; The chi square test and the odds ratio calculation were applied. Results: There were no significant differences with respect to age, gender and origin between patients with diabetes mellitus or without this condition (p <0.05). The frequency of vitiligo in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus was 29%. The frequency of vitiligo in patients without type 2 diabetes mellitus was 8%. Vitiligo is a factor associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus with an odds ratio of 4.6 which was significant (p <0.05). Conclusions: Vitiligo is a factor associated with diabetes mellitus in patients of Hospital Belén de Trujillo.
