Objective: To determine if the c-reactive protein / serum albumin index has value as a predictor of mortality in polytraumatized patients at Hospital Belén de Trujillo. Material and methods: Retrospective, observational, diagnostic study in 262 polytraumatized patients. We calculated the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative. The chi square test was applied and the area under the curve for creactive protein / serum albumin index was determined. Results: Sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value of c-reactive protein / serum albumin index as predictor of mortality in polytrauma patients was 81%; 83%; 51% and 95% respectively. The best cutoff of the PCR / albumin index in predicting mortality in polytrauma patients was 4. The predictive accuracy of the PCR / albumin index in predicting mortality in polytrauma patients was 82%. The mean PCR / albumin index was significantly higher in the group of deceased polytrauma patients than in the survivors. Conclusions: The c-reactive protein / serum albumin index has a value as a predictor of mortality in polytraumatized patients at Hospital Belén de Trujillo.
