To demonstrate if the gestational pyelonephritis, preeclampsia and premature rupture of membranes are risk factors for preterm birth in the Daniel Alcides Carrion National Hospital. Material and Methods: Analytical test study, observational, retrospective, cases and controls tests was carried out. The study population was conformed for 90 pregnant women, according to inclusion and exclusion criteria established, distributed into two groups: premature birth for cases and without premature birth for controls Results: The average age for pregnant women in cases and controls was 23.56 ± 6.28 and 26.87 ± 6.89 years for each group. The average of pregnancy was 2.11 ± 1.28 and 2.31 ± 1.26. The average age at birth was 32.62 ± 2.82 y 38.53 ± 1.25 respectively. The frequency of preeclampsia and premature rupture of membranes was higher in controls (42.2% vs. 31.1%) and (46.7% vs. 42.2%) respectively, without statistically significant association. Conclusions: The pyelonephritis is a risk factor to preterm birth and sets up odds ratio of 2.71, which is statistically significant. Preeclampsia and premature rupture of membranes didn´t show statistically significant association.
