In this work, we try to determine what kind of taxes are the best contributors to Peru economic growth. To achieve this, we take quarterly data of the years 1990 to 2013. In order to obtain the results, two main taxes were selected: the General Sales Tax (IGV) and the Income Tax (IR). Also, the necessary variables for the study as the Government Non-Financial Expenses, the Government Capital Expenditure and Capital Expenditure of Non-Financial Public System collected from statistical database of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru, sorted and analyzed through Eviews econometric software. With the information gathered and the final data processed, it was concluded that direct taxes such as the IR, are positively related to economic growth. Also, indirect taxes such as IGV, have an inverse relationship to economic growth. We also obtain results of a positive relationship of Government Non-Financial Expenses and the Government Capital Expenditure with economic growth and a negative relationship of the Capital Expenditure of Non-Financial Public System with economic growth. These results are consistent with Robert Barro theory, which refers to the relationship of direct and indirect taxes with economic growth. Rafael Doménech also states that taxes on capital income (direct) are those that have a greater effect, and conversely, indirect taxes are the least affect economic growth.
