To determine whether the Polycystic Ovary Syndrome represents a risk factor for developing Gestational Diabetes in pregnant women at the III José Cayetano Heredia Hospital of Piura. MATERIAL AND METHODS : An analytical study of cases and controls , retrospective and cross-sectional study was performed: 168 pregnant women who met the inclusion criteria in the period of 2009-2014 , which were divided into 2 groups: 56 pregnant women who had Diabetes Mellitus Gestation and 112 pregnant who didn’t present, each group was researched for history of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome in their medical records and the data were collected in chips, which were analyzed using the SPSS statistical package. RESULTS: Patients who had a history of PCOS were 5 times more risk of DMG , with high statistical significance ( p < 0.01 ) . The average time elapsed between diagnosis was 3.5 years. Also no causality between BMI and DMG was found, the relationship was not statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS: PCOS can be considered as significant risk factor for DMG
