To determine the validity of the abdominal circumference in the diagnosis of early atherogenesis in children aged 6-10 years who presented to the office of CRED Primary Care Center I ESSALUD Paijan in the district of Ascope. Methods: We studied 126 children, of whom 63 children had greater waist circumference equal to the 95th percentile and 63 children had abdominal circumference percentiles between 10 to 90. Waist circumference at the midpoint between the last rib and the top edge of the iliac crest was measured; and measurement of carotid intima-media thickness was obtained in a high frequency linear transducer 12 MHZ evaluating the right internal carotid artery to the bifurcation, early atherogenesis was considered when the carotid intimate media thickness was greater than 0,41mm. Descriptive statistics were performed using the data collected and analyzed in a double entry table by calculating the values of sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values. Results: We found that children with greater waist circumference equal to the 95th percentile had a carotid intima-media thickness from 0.30mm to 0.85mm with a mean ± 0,49mm 0.12DS; and children with abdominal circumference percentiles between 10 to 90 had an average thickness of carotid intimate between 0.30mm to 0.50mm 0.37mm with a mean ± 0.04DS. Sensitivity 83.3%, specificity 75%, positive predictive value 71.43% and a negative predictive value of 85.71% was obtained Conclusions: Abdominal Circumference is valid for the Diagnosis of Early atherogenesis in children aged 6-10 years.
