In order to determine the effect of water temperature and nutrient density of the diet on the productive performance of tilapia in the process of adaptation to the coast of La Libertad region,480 tilapia young fish were used with an average weight of 3.86 + 0.65 g, distributed in tanks subdivided into two spaces of 250 l of water, through a complete block design with factorial arrangement 2 x 2 (levels of temperature, Ta: room temperature and T27: temperature of 27 ºC; nutrient density in the diet, DB: basal diet and D20 : DB 20% more nutrient density) with four replicates and considering blocking factor as the weight of the young fish. The pH, ammonia and nitrite values measured in the tanks during the experiment remained at acceptable levels; the water temperature was maintained between 22.8 and 23.4 °C for the treatments with room temperature, and between 27.8 y 27.9 ºC for the treatments with controlled temperature. No significant interaction between the water temperature and nutrient density was found. The temperature of 27 °C resulted in fish greater weight gain and higher feed intake (P < 0.05) compared to those reared in water with room temperature, caused by better digestibility and utilization of nutrients, while higher levels of nutrients in the diets did not improve growth performance of tilapia.
