Determine if Acute Kidney Injury has predictive value of in-hospital mortality in ischemic cerebrovascular disease in patients treated in the Emergency Department and Critical Care at the Belen Hospital of Trujillo, from January 2010 to December 2014. MATERIAL AND METHOD: We conducted an observational, analytical, case-control study, with 99 evaluated patients suffering ischemic stroke; they were divided into two groups, the group of cases (33 patients who died) and the group of controls (66 patients who survived). RESULTS: The mean age of the patients in the group of cases was 77.06 ± 8.93 years and in the group of controls was 74.56 ± 9.39 years (p > 0.05); respecting to the sex, the proportion of male patients in the groups of cases and controls were 57.58% and 57.58% respectively (p > 0.05). Regarding to the baseline creatinine and the higher creatinine values during the hospitalization, we observed that the average in the groups of cases and controls was 0.88 ± 0.13 and 0.87 ± 0.14 mg/dL (p > 0, 05) for the baseline creatinine and 1.16 ± 0.32 and 1.07 ± 0.26 mg/dL (p > 0.05). With regard to the association between the presence of acute kidney injury and the study groups, we observed that the presence of AKI in patients of the cases group was 27.27% and in patients of the controls group was 7.58% (p < 0 01), with an OR = 4.58, CI 95% [1.39 to 15.05]. CONCLUSIONS: Acute kidney injury was a mortality risk factor in patients with ischemic stroke.
