On this research, the effects of mortality and repellency powders of tara (Caesalpinia spinosa L.), molle (Schinus terebinthifolius L.) and basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) on Acanthoscelides obtectus (say) (Coleoptera, Bruchidae) were evaluated in beans, Phaseolus vulgaris (Fabaceae) under laboratory conditions. A Complete Randomized Design with four treatments (each species and a control without treatment) and five replicates was used. The powder treatment of these three species on grains panamito bean, under laboratory conditions, had significant effects on mortality and repellency of Acanthoscelides obtectus. A cumulative mortality percentage of 100% in all three treatments, with molle treatment having the highest number of dead insects at 11 days, followed by basil treatment and finally, tara treatment was obtained. The three plant extracts showed repellency over Acanthoscelides obtectus adults on grains beans being tara treatment which had the highest percentage at 4 days after application. It is discussed the role of terpenes the effect of the three plant extracts powder and is concluded that at 10% w / w the three extracts caused high mortality of Acanthoscelides obtectus at 14 days, but a low repellent effect.
