Objective. To determine the risk factors frequently associated to Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in patients adults of Hospital the Basic Specialties La Noria. Material and methods. A random sample was selected of 100 patients with Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease served by the Internal Medicine service and the General Medicine of Hospital the Basic La Noria from december 2010 to december 2011; as well as 100 controls, by setting the characteristics often associated to each group, determining a ratio of probability. Results. There were 106 (53%) women and 94 (47%) men, in all over the study. Were the women the that presented higher frequency of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in compared with controls (77% vs. 29% respectively), the odds ratio obtained was 8.196 (C.I. 95%: 4.343 – 15.470). The average age of the cases and controls was of 55.76 ± 11.500 years and 59.12 ± 12.147 years (p = 0.044), found that age less than 50 years (between 40 and 50 years) is risk factor in the present study; the odds ratio obtained was 1.879 (C. I. 95%: 1.037 – 3.405). It was noted that BMI (body mass index) greater than 30 kg/m2 was more frequent in the group of cases in compared with controls (49% vs. 1% respectively, p = 0.0001), the odds ratio was 95.118 (C.I. 95%: 12.764 – 708.813). There is a higher frequency of dyslipidemia in the case group in compared with controls (79% vs. 11% respectively, p = 0.0001), the odds ratio obtained was 30.437 (C.I. 95%: 13.815 – 67.058). It was noted a higher frequency of diabetes mellitus type 2 in the group of cases in compared with controls (67% vs. 4% respectively; p = 0.0001), the odds ratio was 48.727 (I.C.95%: 16.489 – 143.99). Conclusions. The present study determined that obesity, the dyslipidemia, the diabetes mellitus type 2 and the sex female, are risk factors associated to the development of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, in the patients evaluated of Hospital the Basic Specialties La Noria.
