Determine if hiperlactacidemia is a predictor of mortality in severe sepsis by Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) at Belen Trujillo Hospital. Methods: This Method applied was analitic, observational, retrospective, cases and controls investigation. The study population was conformed for 126 patients with severe sepsis by Community-acquired pneumonia(CAP) applying inclusion and exclusion criteries, distributed in 2 groups: with or without mortality. Results: The frequency of hyperlactatemia in patients with severe sepsis from Community-acquired pneumonia was 42 % for deaths and 12 % for survivors. The odds ratio of hyperlactatemia in relation to mortality was 5.55 ( p < 0.05 ), with a confidence interval of 95 % (2.28 - 9.16) . The average serum lactate in the group with and without mortality were 5.9 and 3.8 respectively ( p < 0.05). Conclusions: Hiperlactacidemia is a risk factor asociated to mortality in severe sepsis by Community-acquired pneumonia(CAP). The average of serum arterial lactate in the pacients with Community-acquired pneumonia death is significatively major than survivors.
