To determine the relationship of birth weight with Body Mass Index (BMI) in adolescence and risk of obesity in adolescents. products singleton pregnancies in Victor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital. Methods: We conducted a study of 185 adolescent divided in three blocks accord birth weight: eutrophic, macrosomic and low birth weight. The correlation of birth weight with BMI.. Results: It was found that there is a direct relationship between birth weight and BMI in adolescence with a coefficient of linear Pearson correlation = 0.341 (p = 0.000); Gamma coefficient = 0.696 (p = 0.00). The average BMI in the group with a history of macrosomia was 22,861 kg / m2 (SD = 2.01); in the group of low birth weight was 20,807 (SD = 2.77) and in those of normal weight at birth was 20 222 (SD = 1.74). The risk of overweight (overweight-obesity) by having low weights was 2.33 and 42.8 to be macrosomic. The normal weight at birth has a protective effect (OR = O.09; 95% CI = 0038-0217; p =0.001). Conclusions: There is a direct relationship between birth weight and BMI .There is an increased risk of obesity by birth macrosomico and to a lesser extent by having low weight at birth.
