To determine the levels of knowledge on pulmonary tuberculosis associated with the abandonment of treatment. Material and Methods: A descriptive, retrospective and prospective, observational, cross-sectional correlative study was conducted. The sample consisted of 31 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis who discontinued treatment at some point. Results: The age of patients ranged from 16-57 years. Age groups <29 years and> 50 totaled 71% of cases. The male reached 54.8%. The degree of primary and secondary education totaled 77.4%. The independent and unemployed reached 29% in each case. The low level of knowledge occurred in 41.9%, the average by 45.2% and 12.9% higher. Of the 31 cases with treatment discontinuation retook 54.8%. The discontinuation and knowledge level showed a significant association (p <0.05). Conclusions: The level of knowledge on pulmonary tuberculosis is a factor associated with the abandonment of treatment.
