To determine if pre gestational maternal obesity is an associated condition to hypoglycemia in newborns assisted at Belen Trujillo Hospital. Methods: An analitic, observational, retrospective, cases and controls study was performed. The study population consisted of 42 newborns divided into 2 groups according to inclusion and exclusion criteria: with and without hypoglycemia. Results: The frequency of prepregnancy obesity in newborns, with and without hypoglycemia, was 17% and 5% respectively. The odds ratio of prepregnancy obesity related to hypoglycemia in neonates was 4 (p <0.05). Conclusions: Pregestational maternal obesity is an associated condition to hypoglycemia in newborns assisted at Belen Trujillo Hospital. Newborns whose mother had pre-pregnancy obesity are 4 times more risk of making neonatal hypoglycemia than newborns whose mother didn´t have prepregnancy obesity.
