To determine whether pre-pregnancy obesity is a risk factor for preeclampsia METHODS: 113 pregnant women diagnosed with preeclampsia and controls: 226 pregnant women without preeclampsia A retrospective analytical study of cases and controls, which evaluated 336 medical records of pregnant women, which were divided into two groups, those cases was performed. Both groups attended in the Obstetrics Trujillo Regional Teaching Hospital in the period January 2012 to December 2014 RESULTS: The prevalence of preeclampsia was 11.3%. With respect to preexisting obesity as risk factor for developing preeclampsia find statistical significance with x2 = 47,413 (p <0.05) and OR = 5.45(IC 95%: 3.3 - 9.03) CONCLUSIONS: The prepregnancy obesity is a risk factor for preeclampsia
