Introduction: The common pathogenetic base to the majority of cardiovascular diseases, is the arteriosclerosis, which predisposes to myocardial infarction, cerebral thrombosis, among other diseases, all of which have their origin in the hyperlipidemia is implicated as a risk factor. It has been found that the consumption of certain plants, favorably affect the lipid profile to reduce concentrations of their components. Objetive: Define the effect of the hydroalcoholic extract at 0.1 mg/kg and 0.2 mg/kg concentration of seeds of Phalaris canariensis L. “alpiste“ on the induced hyperlipidemia in Rattus rattus albinus. Methods: Was conduced an experimental, longitudinal, prospective, comparative investigation. The study population was composed of 25 specimens of Rattus rattus strain Holtzman as inclusion and exclusion criteria established, distributed in five groups: a target group, a control group and three problem groups. Results: There is no significant difference among the groups in which was used the hydroalcoholic extract of seeds of Phalaris canariensis L. “alpiste“ at the 0.1mg/kg y 0.2 mg/kg concentration, by what was not found their lipid lowering effec. Conclusions: The hydroalcoholic extract of seeds of Phalaris canariensis L. “alpiste“ doesn’t modify the induced hyperlipidemia in Rattus rattus albinus at 0.1 mg/kg and 0.2 mg/kg concentration.
