At birth, the human being requires the constant care of their parents or guardians, in addition, they expect to receive certain responses to their emotional and physical needs from them, which is why parental figures are the most important in early childhood. Each parent or guardian has different attitudes towards children, we call that parenting styles, these attitudes can create a good enviroment to raising children or they can be dysfunctional, influencing the behavior of children and, therefore their personality. This research aims to verify if there is an association between dysfunctional parenting styles and social anxiety in medical students. The study is analytical, observational and cross-sectional, virtual surveys will be used. The SPSS v.25 program was used to do the analysis. It was obtained as a result that 50.2% of students with a low level in dysfunctional parenting styles do not have social anxiety, while 12.7% who have a low level in dysfunctional parenting styles present significant social anxiety, in addition to a slightly low percentage of middle-level students with dysfunctional parenting styles and severe, significant, and moderate social anxiety, 0.8%. Likewise, it is observed that 0.8% of students with a high level of dysfunctional parenting styles have a significant level of social anxiety. It can also be seen that the Chi Square Value, 𝑥 2= 35.731 with a value p = 0.000, being less than the level of significance (α) = 0.05; therefore, the association between dysfunctional parenting styles and social anxiety in human medicine students from the Antenor Orrego Private University, 2021 was demonstrated.
