Through studies worldwide it was shown that 4.4% of the entire population are prone to develop depression, which is evidenced through instruments such as tests and surveys and their diagnosis through the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM - 5), this psychiatric disorder brings with it the propensity to present suicidal ideation which is a complex spectrum that goes from the mere idea of wanting to cease to exist, to plan how a person can take life and finally the consummation of the suicide. Bidirectional suicidal ideation in most cases is triggered by multiple factors independent of depression, which accelerates the process of reaching suicide. The objective of this study was to find and identify the frequency and association of various risk factors associated with suicidal ideation in patients with depression, these factors were, family dysfunction, alcohol risk consumption, sex, sexual orientation and marital status in public hospitals of Trujillo. For this purpose, 93 outpatients were evaluated with the Zung self-assessment scale for depression, the Audit-C Test for alcohol risk consumption, the Family Apgar Test for family dysfunction, and the instrument consisted of various items. to provide information regarding sex, marital status and sexual orientation. The bivariate analysis showed that the variables with the highest significance (p <0.05) were marital status with a p = 0.024 and an ORc = 2.90 95% CI [1,137,44], family dysfunction with a p = 0.001, an ORc = 7.70 IC 95% [2.58-22.97]; sex had a tendency to be significant p = 0.059, an ORc = 2.39 IC 95% [0.96-5.95]. The variables alcohol consumption and sexual orientation were not associated with suicidal ideation. In the multivariate analysis, family dysfunction and not being married in marital status were variables that were significantly associated with suicidal ideation. The Hosmer-Lemeshow test showed a Chi-square value of 1.66 and the level of significance obtained with 2 degrees of freedom was p = 0.436, indicating that the model fits the data reasonably well. It is concluded that people with family dysfunction, as well as single people, have a higher risk of presenting suicidal ideation when they have depression, according to the results of this study.
