Objective: To establish whether obesity is a risk factor for dengue with warning signs in children under twelve years of age treated at the Santa Isabel District Hospital in el Porvenir. Material and methods: A retrospective study was carried out where 111 children under 12 years of age with a diagnosis of dengue were collected, consisting of 37 children with dengue with warning signs and 74, without warning signs. Results: 21.6% of dengue cases with warning signs presented obesity. 9.5% of patients without warning signs were obese. In the multivariate analysis, obesity was not significantly associated with dengue with warning signs in children (aOR = 2.22; 95% CI = 0.66 – 7.47; p = 0.20). However, the presence of anemia in children did have a significant relationship (aOR = 2.98; 95% CI = 1.13 – 7.84; p = 0.03). Conclusions: Obesity in children under 12 years of age is not a risk factor for dengue with warning signs. Anemia is a risk factor for dengue with warning signs in children under 12 years of age
