To determine the prevalence of temporomandibular disorders, according to the Helkimo index modified by Maglione, in patients treated at the Dentistry Clinic of the Universidad Privada Antenor Orrego of Trujillo in the year 2018. Material and methods: The study was prospective, transversal, descriptive and observational. This study had a sample of a non-probabilistic collection for convenience of 170 adult patients from 18 to 70 years, where they were selected at random and met the inclusion criteria. The data collection was done after a peer type calibration by an expert using the kappa match index. As part of the procedure, all patients were evaluated in a single session, obtaining all the necessary data. Results: Among the results, it can be seen that the prevalence of temporomandibular disorders in adults aged 18 to 70 years is 87.65% compared to asymptomatic patients, which was 12.35%. The prevalence of temporomandibular disorders according to degree of severity, moderate clinical dysfunction prevailed with 40.59%. According to the age rank, the group aged 30 to 45 years had a higher prevalence of disorders with 35.29% and a higher prevalence in mild clinical dysfunction with 45%. The highest prevalence of temporomandibular disorders was found in women with 56.47%, with moderate clinical dysfunction of 41.59%. According to the loss of teeth, it was found that patients with partial edentulous were predominant with 54.70 with a higher prevalence of moderate clinical dysfunction with 54.84%.Conclusions: The prevalence of temporomandibular disorders is 87.65%, with greater frequency in the female gender and in the age group of 30 to 45 years.
