Objective: To compare the prognostic effectiveness of the CLIF-SOFA scale with MELD-Na and CPT, as predictors of death in cirrhotic patients with hepatic encephalopathy. Materials and methods: An observational, analytical, retrospective and diagnostic tests study was carried out, evaluating to 164 cirrhotic patients with hepatic encephalopathy treated in the gastroenterology service of the Regional Teaching Hospital of Trujillo during the period 2016 to 2018. The calculation of sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value, and diagnostic accuracy of the CLIF-SOFA, MELD-Na and CTP scores was carried out. Results: Out of a total of 164 patients were included in the study, the average of age of the deceased patients was 65.3 years and survivors was 63.5 years, with predominance of the masculine gender (53.6%), especially in the cirrhosis caused by alcohol (72%); a total of 33 (20.1%) patients died and 131 patients survived (79.9%). The frequency of ascites was significantly higher in the group of patients deceased than in the survivors (p <0.05). The cut-off point for the MELD-Na score was ≥26 (S: 58%, E: 81%, PPV: 43%, NPV: 88%); for CLIF-SOFA was ≥8 (S: 64%, E: 82%, PPV: 47%, NPV: 90%); and for CTP was ≥12 (S: 63%, E: 73%, PPV: 38%, NPV: 89%). The area under the curve of the score CLIF-SOFA, CTP and MELD-Na scale as a predictor of death in cirrhotic patients with hepatic encephalopathy was 71.5%; 71.4% and 74.8% respectively, without significant differences (p> 0.05). Conclusions: There is no significant difference between the prognostic effectiveness of the CLIF-SOFA scale with MELD-Na and CPT, as predictors of death in cirrhotic patients with hepatic encephalopathy.
