de edad en los casos y controles de 77 [68-81] y 66 [51-76], respectivamente;
27.1%; OR=0.12 [0.07-0.22]; p<0.001).
Parkinson.
To determine if appendectomy is a protective factor for Parkinson's disease. Materials and Methods: An observational analytical study of cases and controls was carried out. 1380 patients entered the study, of which 276 were cases with a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease and 1104 were controls without a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease, where both groups were evaluated for their history of appendectomy. Results: The patients had a median with interquartile range [25-75] of age in the controls and controls of 77 [68-81] and 66 [51-76], respectively; p <0.001. Male sex was 66% and 41% in cases and controls; p <0.001. Family history was 30% and 5% in cases and controls; p <0.001. The distribution of patients according to the history of appendectomy (4.3% vs 27.1%; OR = 0.12 [0.07-0.22]; p <0.001). According to the multiple logistic regression analysis, the sociodemographic variables do not alter the protective function of the antecedent of appendectomy in the face of Parkinson's disease. Conclusions: Appendectomy is a protective factor for Parkinson's disease.
