To determine if urinary tract infection (UTI) during the third trimester, premature rupture of membranes (RPM) exceeding 18 hours, chorioamnionitis, meconium-stained amniotic fluid, having fewer than 6 prenatal check-ups, and the mode of delivery constitute risk factors for early neonatal sepsis in newborns at the Basic Specialties Hospital La Noria. Material and methods: An analytical, observational, retrospective case-control study was conducted on 222 full-term newborns at the Basic Specialties Hospital La Noria between 2019 and 2022. The study was divided into 74 cases and 148 controls, considering the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: In the statistical analysis of associated variables, it was determined that urinary tract infection in the third trimester (ORc = 5.83; 95% CI = 3.12 – 10.88; p = 0.01), premature rupture of membranes > 18 hours (ORc = 4.88; 95% CI = 2.35 – 10.15; p = 0.01), chorioamnionitis (ORc = 6.69; 95% CI = 1.75 – 25.53; p = 0.01), fewer than 6 prenatal check-ups (ORc = 2.17; 95% CI = 1.21 – 3.90; p = 0.01), and cesarean section delivery (ORc = 1.87; 95% CI = 1.03 – 3.41; p = 0.04) are associated factors with probable early neonatal sepsis. Conclusions: Urinary tract infection in the third trimester, premature rupture of membranes exceeding 18 hours, chorioamnionitis, fewer than six prenatal check-ups, and cesarean section are risk factors for probable early neonatal sepsis at HEBLN from 2019 to 2022
