This research work was carried out on the Cartavio-Panamericana Norte highway in the district of Santiago de Cao-Province of Ascope-Department of La Libertad, with the purpose of analyzing and comparatively evaluating the structural design between a flexible and a rigid pavement. Therefore, the conditions of the pavement of the road under study were observed and analyzed. In the structural design of the flooring, was used the AASHTO 93 methodology. In addition, the recommendations of the National Building Regulations: Standard CE.010 Urban Pavement and the Highway Manual of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications were taken into account, which were used to establish the thicknesses and parameters for the design of flexible and rigid pavement. For data collection, preliminary studies were carried out, such as the traffic study, which showed that the number of equivalent axle repetitions for the flexible pavement is 3,166,435 and for the rigid pavement it is 4,177,916.54, fundamental data that allowed us to determine the structural design for both pavements. The results obtained for the structural design of the rigid pavement is a 20 cm concrete slab with a f'c = 280kg/cm2 and a 15 cm subbase, with a cost of S/ 9,924,046.49 and for the structural design of the flexible pavement is a 10 cm asphalt layer, 20 cm base and 15 cm subbase, with a cost of S/ 7,877,152.66. It was concluded that flexible pavement offers a lower cost than rigid pavement, which makes it more favorable from the economic point of view, but in the long term it will demand higher maintenance costs.
