Determine the impact of carbapenem-resistance on the mortality of patients diagnosed with sepsis. Method: An observational, analytical, retrospective cohort was carried out, where 201 medical files were reviewed, excluding 78, selecting 42 patients exposed and 42 not exposed to infections by carbapenem- resistant bacteria that evolved to sepsis at the Víctor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital. The medical files were selected by inclusion criteria, predominantly by diagnosis of sepsis and culture and antibiogram results. The data was collected in an Excel database and imported into the statistical package Stata v16.0, finally the calculation of the Relative Risk and the analysis of the variables with the chi-square test were performed. Results: The overall mortality rate in the cohort of 84 patients hospitalized for sepsis was 67%. Mortality in patients with infections due to microorganisms resistant to carbapenems was 88% and 45% in patients without such resistance, p<0.001. The relative risk of mortality of patients with infections due to microorganisms resistant to carbapenems was 1.51; 95% CI (1.07-2.14; p=0.020) in relation to patients without said resistance. Conclusion: Carbapenem-resistance is associated with a higher risk of increased mortality in patients with sepsis.
