Objective: To determine if the scale of the Model of Terminal Liver Disease (MELD integrated to arterial lactate has validity as a predictor of mortality in patients with liver cirrosis of the Hospital Belen of Trujillo during the period 2015 – 2018. Material and methods: Retrospective sectional study of diagnostic tests, patiens with liver cirrhosis treated at the Gastroenterology Service of the Hospital Belen of Trujillo in the period 2015 – 2018 who met the selection criteria (184 patients) were admitted. We selected patients with liver cirrhosis based on the presence (39) or absence (145) of in-hospital mortality by simple random sampling, we associated them with the intervening variables, we calculated MELD integrated with arterial lactate for each patient, we completed the sample size. Patients with underlying pathologies that could influence the onset of mortality are excluded, the calculation of size for the infinite population was used. Chi square was used for the qualitative variables; and student T for the quantitative variables. Results: The frequency of hiponatremia, Child Pugh stage c, elevated INR and acute kidney injury were significantly higher in the group of deceased patients (p<0.05). The Sensitivity and Specificity were 85% and 84% respectively. The Positive and Negative Predictive Value was 60% and 95% respectively. Prognostic Accuracy was 74%. Conclusion: The MELD scale integrated to arterial lactate has validity as a predictor of mortality in patients with liver cirrhosis at Hospital Belen of Trujillo during the period 2015 – 2018.
