Introduction: Asthma exacerbation is one of the most frequently attended medical diagnosis in pediatric emergency services. Current asthma management guidelines mention that the additional use of ipratropium bromide in the treatment of moderate asthma exacerbations can be considered. However, until now there is controversy in the effectiveness of its use. A cohort study was conducted at the Víctor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital, which sought to compare the effectiveness of the use of ipratropium bromide added to conventional therapy compared with conventional therapy in the treatment of moderate exacerbation of asthma in children. Method: An observational analytical study of a prospective cohort was carried out in children 5 to 14 years of age with moderate exacerbation of asthma. The data of interest were clinical score and oxygen saturation at admission, clinical score and oxygen saturation after receiving treatment and the time spent in observation. Clinical improvement, increased oxygen saturation and time spent in observation were defined as effective. Results: During January to July 2018, information was collected about children with moderate asthma exacerbation who attended the pediatric emergency service. The data of 100 patients were analyzed, which were divided into 2 groups made up of 50 people each. These depended whether or not they received ipratropium bromide added to conventional therapy in their treatment. No significant difference was found in the clinical improvement, the increase in oxygen saturation and the time of observation stay (p> 0.05). Conclusion: The use of ipratropium bromide added to conventional therapy was not more effective than conventional therapy in moderate exacerbation of asthma in children
