OBJECTIVE: To determine whether childhood obesity and artificial feeding are associated with the presence of asthma in children aged 5 to 10 years with a history of bronchiolitis. METHODOLOGY: Case-control, analytical and retrospective study with secondary data collection by registering the clinical records of pediatric patients aged 5 to 10 years between 2018 and 2019 within Hospital III-1 José Cayetano Heredia Piura. RESULTS: An average age of 6.2 ± 1.1 years was found in the control group and 6.9 ± 0.9 years in the case group with a p value of 0.846; Regarding sex, the male was 50.5% in the controls and 51.5% in the cases with a p value of 0.443; being the value p > 0.05 in both, which indicates that there is no statistical significance and both groups have a similar composition and can be compared. It was found, in the group of cases, 47.4% had obesity (p=0.325), 49.5% used artificial feeding (p=0.244) and 77.8% had a history of a first-degree relative with asthma (p=0.026). Only in the history of having a first-degree relative with asthma, we found statistical significance (p<0.05); In the statistical analysis, the OR was 2056, with a 95% CI, LI 1085 and LS 3895. Likewise, when dividing into age groups, it was found that in children under 8 years of age there is a statistically significant difference in the risk of having asthma, compared to those children over 7 years of age (p=0.003). The magnitude of risk, measured in Odds Ratio, is 2,767 times the risk of asthma if one is between 5 and 7 years old, compared to those children between 8 and 10 years old with a CI of 95%, LI 1,043 and LS 8.1. CONCLUSIONS: In the present study, no risk association was found between childhood obesity and artificial feeding for the development of asthma in children between 5-10 years of age with a history of bronchiolitis at Hospital III-1 José Cayetano Heredia - Piura. However, it was found that having a first-degree relative with a history of asthma increases the risk of having asthma by 2,056 times; as well as being in the age range between 5 and 7 years, increases the risk of suffering from it by 2,767 times.
