To determine the association between the presence of obesity and height and pubertal stage in children between 5 and 14 years of age. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Using a cross-sectional analytical design, we reviewed the medical records of 260 children treated at the Pediatric Endocrinology Outpatient Clinic of the Lazarte Hospital, group one (G1) with obesity and group two (G2) eutrophic, comparing height and pubertal stage of Tanner. RESULTS: A total of 260 children aged 5 to 14 years, 131/129 obese/non-obese, sex F/M 128/132, mean age 9.84 with standard deviation (SD) 2.64 years, average height 1.36 0.155, mean BMI 21.10 kg/m2 were studied: The average height was higher in the group with obesity than without obesity. The difference is significant p=0.000: The difference in height between groups with obesity and without obesity is higher in females. Tanner's pubertal stage of children aged 5 to 14 years with and without obesity in stages 1, 2 and 3 there is a predominance of the non-obese group while in groups 4 and 5 there is a predominance of the obese group. Age onset of puberty is at a lower age in the obese group mean 8.6588 years SD 2.088, NON-OBESE 10.147 SD 2.645 ANOVA t=14.56 p=0.045 According to multinomial logistic regression, obesity-height OR1.28 (1.03-1.87) p=0.00, obesity-Tanner OR 2.08(1.83-2.96) p=0.038, obesity-sex OR 2.32(1.3- 2.87) p=0.000, obesity-age not significant p=0.997 CONCLUSIONS: Tanner's pubertal stage and height are higher in obese children than in non-obese children, the difference is greater in females
