Objective: to determine the prevalence and characteristics of overactive bladder among patients between 50-80 between the periods January 2016 - December 2018. Methodology: Basic, observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study. The study sample was obtained through an expected proportion with a 95% confidence interval and consisted of 164 patients who presented overactive bladder through a simple random probabilistic sampling. Data collection was carried out based on a survey aimed at patients suffering from overactive bladder in the years 2016 to 2018, in which the symptomatology, age and sex of the reference syndrome are assessed. Results: urinary urgency has a prevalence of 37.8% for the category of “enough“ and urinary incontinence shows a prevalence of 36% corresponding to the category of “much“ discomfort; patients have nocturia between 1 or more times per night with 74.3% and have a urinary frequency of up to 8 urination, which represents 54.9%.The prevalence of age is between 60-69 years and the female sex predominates with 60.4% over the male with 39.6%. Conclusions: the incontinence is the most annoying symptom and urgency is the cardinal symptom, both accompanied by frequency and nocturia. The prevalence of sex predominates in the female gender and age is higher in the sixth decade of life.
