Objective: To establish if neonatal jaundice is a risk factor for bronchial asthma in children from 6 to 12 years of age. Material and Method: An observational, analytical study of cases and controls was conducted during June and July of 2018, by reviewing the clinical records of pediatric patients aged 6 to 12 years of age treated in the outpatient clinics of the Víctor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital. The sample obtained was of 270 clinical histories of these patients, of which only 200 were included in the study, 100 patients with the diagnosis of bronchial asthma and 100 patients without the diagnosis of bronchial asthma; which were categorized into case groups and control group. Results: The average age in the case group was of 8.12 ± 1.99 years compared to 8.61 ±2.29 of the control group, which did not show significant statistical difference (p> 0.05). The frequency of neonatal jaundice was 26% of the total of clinical records reviewed, finding 33% in the case group and 16% in the control group. Finding additionally the ORa of 2,218 IC 95% [1,124 - 4,379] significant and a p-value of 0,022. There is significant difference between the groups. Conclusions: Patients with a history of neonatal jaundice have a 2.2 times risk of developing bronchial asthma in childhood.
