The objective of this study was to determine whether insufficient sleep duration is a factor associated with childhood obesity in children aged 7 to 13 years. Material and method: The design was observational, analytical and transversal. The study was conducted in 2 schools in the Chocope district. 230 children between 7 and 13 years of age were studied, divided into 2 groups GROUP 1 with insufficient sleep duration (CASES) and GROUP 2 with adequate sleep duration (CONTROLS). Results: There is significant association between insufficient sleep duration (DIS) and obesity with a chi squared of 72.69 and p<0.001. 82.4% of children in insufficient sleep were obese compared to 25.8% of those who had adequate sleep, with an OR of 13.43 (95% CI 7.049-25.06) of being obese by DIS, with a significance of p <0.001 . We found an average BMI between groups with and without DIS of 22-099 kg/ m2 .3.26 vs 18.869 s 3.02 with a t-test by ANOVA of 60,291 p-0-000.We found significant association between insufficient sleep duration (DIS) and obesity with a sex-adjusted OR, parent marital status and physical activity of 15.37 (95% CI 7.675- 30.81) with a significance of p <0.001. Conclusions:There is a significant association between insufficient sleep duration and obesity in children betw 7 and 13 years of age.
