To determine whether nutritional status, functional status, sleep deprivation and fragmentation; time on dialysis, and anemia are associated factors for low quality of life in patients with stage 5 of chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis. Material and methods A comparative cross-sectional study was conducted in 104 adult patients from the nephrology unit of the Hospital de Alta Complejidad Virgen de la Puerta, who were hemodialysis users, to whom the KDQOL-36 quality of life questionnaire was applied and the presence or not of each factors were reviewed. To calculate the association, the Chi-square statistical test and the prevalence ratio were used, establishing p<0.05 as significant. Results: Of the total number of patients interviewed, it was found that 52,884% were female and 47,115% were male, with an age between 18 and 85 years. Among the factors studied, it was found that the only factor associated with low quality of life was functional dependence (PR: 4.83, CI: 4.80-11.45, p=0.0002). The rest of the factors such as poor nutritional status (p=0.1433), sleep disturbances such as deprivation (p=0.3118) and fragmentation (p=0.4774), time on hemodialysis less than 1 year (p=0.5594), from 1 to 5 years (p=0.2267) and from 6 to 10 years (p=0.1954), and anemia (p=0.3698); they did not show an association with low quality of life. The bivariate analysis found that the degree of independence is related to low quality of life (p=0.0001) with a PR=0.15 and a 95% CI 0.15-0.44, thus being a protective factor for low quality of life Conclusions: Low quality of life is dependent on functional status in adult patients with stage 5 of chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis at Hospital de Alta Complejidad Virgen de la Puerta.
