Diabetes mellitus tipo 2
To determine if the neutrophil lymphocyte index is a prognostic factor of microvascular complications in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at the Belén de Trujillo Hospital. Material and Methods: A retrospective analytical, observational, case- control study was carried out. The study population consisted of 108 diabetic patients according to established inclusion and exclusion criteria distributed in two groups: with or without microvascular complications; The odds ratio and the chi-square test were calculated. Results: The average time of illness and the frequencies of arterial hypertension [p = 0.031 OR: 2.48(IC 95%:1.4 – 5.2)], hypercholesterolemia [p= 0.039 OR: 2.55 (IC95% 1.5 – 4.9)]and high body mass 25 [p= 0.034 OR :2.65(IC 95% 1.5– 5.5)] index were significantly higher in the group of patients with microvascular complications than in the group without microvascular complications. The frequency of the elevated lymphocyte neutrophil index in type 2 diabetic patients with microvascular complications was 61% The frequency of the elevated lymphocyte neutrophil index in type 2 diabetic patients with microvascular complications was 37%. The elevated lymphocyte neutrophil index is a prognostic factor for microvascular complications in type 2 diabetic patients with an odds ratio of 2.67 which was significant (p <0.05). In the multivariate analysis, the variables neutrophil lymphocyte index, disease time greater than 10 years, arterial hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, body mass index> 25.9 are recognized as prognostic factors for microvascular complications in type 2 diabetic patients (p <0.05). Conclusions: The neutrophil lymphocyte index is a prognostic factor of microvascular complications in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at the Belén of Trujillo Hospital.
