OBJECTIVE: Determine the prevalence of dental caries in students aged 12 to 18 years of the Fe y Alegría educational institution n°36 La Esperanza-Trujillo, 2023. MATERIAL AND METHOD: The study had a cross-sectional, descriptive, prolective and observational design. A total of 300 students aged 12 to 18 were examined. To evaluate the prevalence of dental caries, the International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS II) was used. Descriptive statistics were used using numbers and percentages. To relate dental caries with the covariates sex and age, the chi-square test was used with a significance level of 5%. RESULTS: A prevalence of dental caries was found to be 96.7%, with the most prevalent codes being code 4 in 16.3% (69) and code 2 in 20.3% (61). Dental caries prevailed in women with 27.2% in code 4 and in 16-year-old schoolchildren code 2 prevailed in 27.5% (14). CONCLUSION: Code 4, according to ICDAS II, was the most prevalent. There was no relationship between dental caries with age and sex
