Objective: To determine if the Metabolic Syndrome is a factor associated with knee Osteoarthritis. Material and methods: An observational, analytical, cross-sectional study was carried out in which 190 new patients who attended the rheumatology service of the Regional Teaching Hospital of Trujillo during the period February to March 2019 were included; according to selection criteria which were divided into 2 groups: patients with or without osteoarthrosis of the knee; applying the odds ratio, and the chi square statistical test. Results: The frequency of increased abdominal circumference (OR 2.56, 95% CI 1.14 - 5.76, p = 0.020) and the average body mass index increased (p = 0.032) were significantly higher in the group of patients with knee osteoarthritis; the proportion of metabolic syndrome in patients with knee osteoarthritis was 60%; The proportion of metabolic syndrome in patients without knee osteoarthritis was 48%. Metabolic syndrome isn’t a factor associated with knee osteoarthritis with an Odds ratio of 1.65 which doesn’t present statistical significance (p> 0.05), but a clinical relevance. Conclusion: The Metabolic Syndrome isn’t a factor associated with osteoarthritis of the knee.
