To determine if the red cell distribution width is a predictor of severity marker in pregnant women with pre-eclampsia at Hospital Belén of Trujillo Methods: An observational, analytical and retrospective diagnostic test study was performed. The analysis unit consisted of the clinical records of 96 pregnant women with preeclampsia treated in the gynecoobstetrics service at the “Hospital Belén de Trujillo” between January 2017 to December 2018 that met the selection criteria. The information of the variables to be studied from the medical records was collected using a data collection sheet. Results: The RDW value was 16.24 ± 2.87 in the severe preeclampsia group vs 13.87 ± 0.76 in the mild preeclampsia group. When performing the ROC curve analysis, we obtained an AUC of 0.84 with a cut-off value of 14.55% and a sensitivity of 79.17% and specificity of 83.33%. Conclusion: Our study showed that RDW is a good predictor of severity in pregnant women with preeclampsia.
