OBJECTIVE: This study aims to determine whether Metabolic Syndrome is a risk factor for nephrolithiasis in adult patients treated at the Internal Medicine and Nephrology Department of General Hospital of Jaén during the period 2016-2021. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective Case-Control study design was employed, where the study sample consisted of adult patients attended at the Internal Medicine and Nephrology Department of General Hospital of Jaén between 2016 and 2021. From this sample, two groups were formed: the ““cases““ group, comprising patients with nephrolithiasis, and the ““control““ group, without this pathology. The statistical analysis included Chi-square test for categorical variables, Student's t-test and/or Mann-Whitney U test for quantitative variables (p < 0.05), as well as the calculation of the Odds ratio. RESULTS: In the nephrolithiasis group, the mean age was 47 years ± 19 (p < 0.05), with females representing 52.9% of the total. Furthermore, 51.7% had no family history of Metabolic Syndrome, and 81.4% were non-smokers (p > 0.05). In the control group, the mean age was 35 years ± 27 (p < 0.05), with females comprising 58.6% of the total. Additionally, 60.9% had no family history of Metabolic Syndrome, and 88.5% were non-smokers (p > 0.05). Among patients with Metabolic Syndrome, 57.5% presented nephrolithiasis (ORc: 3.454; 95% CI: 1.807 - 6.604; p: 0.00). CONCLUSIONS: Metabolic Syndrome is a risk factor for nephrolithiasis in adult patients treated at the Internal Medicine and Nephrology Department of General Hospital of Jaén between 2016 and 2021
