The purpose of this research is to make a diagnostic of the state of the pavement of Cesar Vallejo Avenue, between Mochica avenue and America Sur avenue – Trujillo through the PCI methodology, to later determine if the road requires a pavement reinforcement design or a new pavement design. For this investigation, the PCI manual was used, based on that the diagnostic of the state of the pavement was carried out both in the field and in the office and an index of 28.15 was obtained, which makes the pavement be classified as “bad“. For a road in this state, a new pavement design is recommended. The traffic study necessary for the design of the pavement with the vehicle count began, carried out 7 days a week. The results of said count were processed and used to calculate the IMDs and IMDa; which were 13,763.30 vehicles per day and 13,141.00 vehicles per day, respectively. Traffic projections were also calculated to calculate the IMDa projected at 5 years, the equivalent axes and values necessary for the design of the pavement, based on the Highway Manual - 2014 version. At the end of the evaluation of the pavement design, the thicknesses of the layers of said pavement were obtained, which were 10 cm for the hot asphalt layer, 20 cm for the base and 25 cm for the sub-base. According to tests carried out in the laboratory, the road floor does not require any reinforcement to start with the pavement design carried out. It is concluded that, depending on the state of the road, it does not only require a reinforcement design but also a new pavement design, and this is what was carried out in the present investigation. After completing this work, some recommendations are provided to consider for possible future improvements.
