The objective of this research was to analyze the thinking of the students of Early Childhood Education at Universidad Privada Antenor Orrego de Trujillo, enrolled in the academic semester 2018-10, about Spanish language regulations regarding orthography. The research was developed within qualitative approach and phenomenological methodology based on observation and analysis of concrete behaviours. The research technique used was in-depth individual interview and the instrument for collecting information was a questionnaire, which was applied to 31 students of first cycle in this Professional School. As a result, the notorious confusion and contradiction they have regarding the usefulness of spelling and its little relevance at the time of communicating are highlighted. The importance of writing correctly is recognized , knowing that a well written message favours communication; but, at the same time, it is not necessary for the development of social and academic activities. The reached conclusion was that Spanish spelling is an aspect that does not mark significantly differences among the students as future teachers and that generates an atmosphere of confusion marked by the incongruence between thinking about writing correctly and doing this activity outside of the regulations of Spanish language.
