The general objective of this study was to analyze the communicational process in the social conflict in relation to the mining activity, using a qualitative research approach. Five research categories were presented, and the interview guide was used as an instrument for data collection. The information obtained was organized, synthesized and compared, using the constant comparison analysis method. Relevant events were the remembrance of the neighborhood consultation that rejected mining, the industrialization of agriculture and the presentation of false information by the ex-premier Pedro Cateriano in the media. The characteristics present in the State actor were the lack of capacity and predisposition to establish dialogue, lack of knowledge about the reality of the locality and a tax stance. The characteristics of the message are clarity and precision, lack of objectivity and truthfulness, lack of timeliness, and the purpose of the State's imposition. Also, the media used were identified and they were traditional. The barriers present in the process were the manipulation of information, the background that affected the dialogue and the use of technical language
