Objective: To determine if there is an association between the levels of albuminuria and the types of Diabetic Retinopathy. Method: A cross-sectional, analytical study was carried out with a population of 143 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus from the Víctor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital, during the period January 2018 - December 2018. Results: An association was found between the levels of albuminuria and the types of diabetic retinopathy. Mild non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy had a higher frequency with normoalbuminuria and microalbuminuria, while proliferative diabetic retinopathy with macroalbuminuria (p=0.000). The variables time of disease, arterial hypertension, elevated glycosylated hemoglobin and decreased glomerular filtration rate were significant variables with p<0.05. Conclusion: The increase in albuminuria levels is associated with the severity of the types of diabetic retinopathy.
