Objective: Determine the level of knowledge, attitudes, practices on photoprotection in people who attend at the Hospital Cayetano Heredia in Piura 2018, period October to November. Material and methods: Non-experimental study, observational, descriptive cross-sectional design, a sample size of 354 people was selected by non-probabilistic convenience sampling. The validated questionnaire with a Cronbach’s alpha >0.7 was made to people who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: It was found that the level of knowledge was mostly low reaching 57%, the attitude was favorable in 95.5%, an inadequate practice was found in 60.5%. The female population represented 76.3% of the sample. 5.4% of the surveyed population had a family member with a history of skin cancer. Only 15.5% of the population knows the existence of laws that provide preventive measures against solar radiation. The most frequent phototype was type IV of fitzpatrick with 47.2%. The most harmful effect produced by UV rays was skin cancer with 55.9%. Conclusions The level of knowledge was mostly low, the attitude was favorable and the practice inadequate.
